Volcanos Galore!

We got out to rural Sauvie Island yesterday, sandwiched between the Willamette and Columbia Rivers just northwest of Portland... Pretty and pastoral with farmlands, wetlands, grasslands and oak groves (and houseboats and river traffic).

As a bonus to a pleasant nature-trail walk, we got excellent views of all three of our prominent volcanic neighbors: Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Ranier (both in Washington) and our own Mt. Hood--these taken from the shores of Sturgeon Lake.

It wasn't especially noticeable, but we're pretty sure St. Helens was putting out some steam--very cool sight sometimes! As long as it's not erupting again!

Lots more to see on the island--at the very least, we'll have to get back during migratory season and for the annual corn maze!
